Impact: Medium to Low
Cause: One of the Amsterdam routers has been replaced on 09-10-2025 and it is showing software issues.
Time: 09:04
Update 11:35:
We replaced the old router with new hardware and new software, identical to the routers we already have in production in Ede. However, since this router is handling more peering traffic (Both AMS-IX and Frys-IX), there is a lot more work to be done for the router.
It looks like we are running into a bug with RPKI-validation and the router software at the time that the router is handling a lot of route updates. This crashes the BGP-daemon, after which connections through the router might be interrupted.
We will be disabling RPKI-validation for now, and we will reboot the router again and keep on monitoring the situation. We have also opened a ticket with our vendor about this issue.
Update 1335:
After disabling RPKI-validation on the AMS-IX peers the situation seemed to be stable. Unfortunately within a few minutes the BGP-daemon crashed while processing new routes.
For now we have disabled all peers on AMS-IX until we have a fix for this.
The current situation seems to be stable with only Frys-IX active, if this situation changes we will disable these peers as well.
In that case this router will only handle iBGP & VRRP until the issue is completely resolved.
Update 21:52:
The vendor has sent us a configuration update that should make the situation better. We will keep monitoring the router this weekend and proceed after the weekend. This issue will now be closed.
